Windows 8.1 End-of-Life is Here

As of January 10, 2023 Microsoft's ope​rating system Windows 8.1 has reached its end-of-life status. What this means is that any computer still running Windows 8.1 will no ​longer receive software updates or fixes from Microsoft. Furthermore, Microsoft will not offer technical support for the Windows 8.1 software.

While a computer running Windows 8.1 will still function there will be an increased risk of viruses and malware infiltrating the system. Moving forward and to ensure that you protect your device and your personal data you have a few options.

• Upgrade to the Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 will be supported by Microsoft until October 14, 2025.
• You could look into the possibility that Windows 11 will be compatible with your system. Computers running Windows 8.1 are unlikely to meet the specifications required to run Windows 11, but if your computer does, you could purchase a copy of Windows 11. If you choose this option, please be aware that you will need to back up your data and reinstall apps after the Windows 11 installation.
• The next option would be to purchase a new computer which should already be running Windows 11. This is probably the easiest and most recommended option as most computers running Windows 8.1 would be 10+ years old.
